Situated in a quiet seafront square in the centre of Vis Old Town, VILLA VENTO is close to many restaurants, shops and bars and a short walk away from the local pebble beaches of Zmorac and Vagan.
VILLA VENTO was originally built in the 1780's whilst Vis - “Issa” in Latin - was ruled by Republic of Venice. Following complete refurbishment, extension, and interior modernisation in 2017, VILLA VENTO is sympathetically styled with eclectic furnishing and engaging artwork - creating a tranquil vacation space to rest and unwind within.
Consisting of two houses linked by a garden terrace with fruiting orange trees and with the only private swimming pool in Vis Old Town, VILLA VENTO offers self-contained space, and privacy for up to 8 guests.
The main house has three floors, accessed through old, welcoming doors at the front of the property. A ground floor hallway leads to a large stone-lined snug/screening room with 4 person sofa, a 75" 8K viewing theatre screen, Blu-Ray player and desk area designed as a remote office space.
A staircase leads from the hallway to the open plan first floor with a spacious living/ dining area and a well-appointed kitchen. From the front window of this room there is a beautiful view of the Adriatic sea. On the second floor a high open stairwell and hall connects two large double bedrooms, both having en suite shower rooms.
Opening out from first floor double patio doors, you'll find a large open garden area with outdoor dining table, sun terrace space and a 25 sqm private swimming pool. This paved Venetian style garden with orange and lemon trees lies links the main terraced house to a second garden house with two large double bedrooms, each with en suite shower room.
The ground floor bedroom of the garden house has a separate, spacious lounge area which opens directly to the pool side, whilst the first floor bedroom has a sunny balcony space and luxury bathroom overlooking the whole of the main house, garden and pool area.
Both properties are air-conditioned throughout, with high speed internet, BOSE and SONOS hi-fi networked speaker systems, large LCD screens in both lounge and snug screening rooms, and laundry facilities.
The beautiful and vibrant island of Vis - Otok Vis - is the farthest inhabited island from the Croatian coast and a unique, peaceful place to escape to.
Vis was first inhabited around the time of the Neolithic period, then later in the 4th century BC the Greek tyrant Dionysius founded the colony town of Issa (later renamed Vis) which became first and oldest town in Croatia.
The economics of Vis are mainly centered around wine making, fishing, and tourism. Around 20% of the island's arable land is covered with vineyards, with domestic vine species such as Plavac Mali, Kurteloška, and Vugava. The sea around Vis is rich with fish, especially blue fish - sardine, mackerel and anchovy.
Vis island has played an important role in the naval history of the Adriatic Sea for well over 2000 years, due to its strategic location. These days, the reputation of Vis relates less to historic sea battles and more to agro-tourism and Hollywood film-making. Production companies and Film studios choose the climate, scenery and idyllic remote location of Vis as a perfect spot to shoot Movie and TV productions.
In 2019, the area of the Vis Archipelago was recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark location, encompassing the island of Vis and the surrounding islands of Biševo, Sveti Andrija, Brusnik, Jabuka and Palagruža as areas of natural beauty and geological importance.
So far as geology, Vis is said to be the most historically interesting area of the Adriatic, containing both young and old rock formations. Areas of the Vis archipelago are formed from volcanic rock, unique in the Adriatic area and easily distinguished from other Adriatic islands which are predominantly formed from sedimentary rock.
Numerous fresh water springs, harnessed by the unique geology of Otok Vis have created unusually fertile conditions for life, so much so that some 2,400 years ago, ancient Greeks chose Vis as the place to locate the first Greek colony on the Adriatic.
